Service Procedure

A. Install a new catalytic converter:

1. Saturate the bolts at the front of the converter and exhaust pipe clamp at the rear of the converter with penetrating oil (Figure 1). Allow 5 minutes for penetration.
2. Remove and discard the nuts, bolts, gasket and exhaust pipe clamp.

3. Insert a chisel-tipped tool between the converter and muffler connection and loosen the converter from the muffler.

4. Heat the converter to muffler connection with an oxyacetylene torch until the metal becomes cherry red.

5. Place a block of wood against the rear of the converter and drive the converter forward to disengage the alignment tab on the converter pipe from the alignment slot on the muffler.

6. Twist the converter back and forth to separate it from the muffler.
7. Drive the new converter into the muffler until the alignment tab is inserted into the alignment slot.

8. Using the provided gasket, nuts and bolts, attach the converter to the front exhaust pipe. Do not tighten the bolts.

9. Install and tighten the new exhaust pipe clamp, at the muffler to converter connection, to 42 ft.lbs.

10. Tighten the converter to front exhaust pipe bolts to 25 ft.lbs.

B. Install a new heating system vacuum hose:

1. Remove and discard the heating system vacuum hose located between the intake manifold and the vacuum reservoir (Figure 2).
2. Install the provided new hose.
C. Install the Recall Completion Label (California vehicles only):

1. With a ball point pen, print your dealer code (5 digits) on the supplied Recall Completion Label.

2. Peel the label from its backing and apply it near the Vehicle Emission Control Information Label located on the bulkhead.

Completion Reporting and Reimbursement

Claims for vehicles which have been serviced must be submitted by DIAL dealers on the DIAL System. Non DIAL dealers may submit WROS. Claims submitted will be used by Chrysler to record recall service completions and provide dealer payments.

Enter only one VIN per claim on a WRO. Fill in the labor operation number and time allowance and write on the WRO "Emissions Recall # 276T -- Catalytic Converter." Do not enter other service claims on the same WRO.

Add the cost of the parts package and applicable dealer allowance to your claim.
