Oxygen Sensor - Idle Speed Variation

1986 COMANCHE WITH 2.46L ENGINE

APRIL 1987

ENGINE Attention: Workshop, Parts Department

THIS I.S. NOTE HAS BEEN REVISED AS INDICATED BY THE REVISION BARS:

IDLE SPEED VARIATION

Some 1986 Comanche vehicles equipped with the 2.46L engine may exhibit a variation in engine idle speed. This condition is generally intermittent and may become more evident with increased temperatures and/or mileage.

The vehicle should be tested with the MS 1700 Diagnostic Tester. Because the condition is intermittent, the MS 1700 may not be able to detect the fault. If the vehicle passes all the tests and no other problems are found, the oxygen (O2) sensor may be the cause of this condition.

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the O2 sensor connector (A).

2. Remove the O2 sensor from the exhaust manifold.

3. Clean the threads in the exhaust manifold.

NOTE: Antiseize sealer is already applied to the threads of replacement O2 sensors.

4. Install a new O2 sensor marked with a yellow tag. Tighten the sensor to 27-34 N-m (20-25 ft.lbs.) torque.

5. Connect the O2 sensor connector.
