Front Case Assembly

Assemble and install the mainshaft and input shaft in the front case. Be sure the shift forks are fully engaged in the synchronizers.

Install the cluster gear assembly in the front case.

Install the alignment dowels (H and 77) in the front case if not installed previously.

Apply Jeep silicone sealer to the mounting surfaces of the front case halves and to the threads of the case and rear bearing retainer attaching bolts.

Align and mount the right case half (82) on the left case half (78).

Install the 8 mm (5/16-in) diameter case attaching bolts only. Tighten the bolts to 15 Nm (12 ft-lbs) torque.

NOTE: Do not install the 7 mm (1/4-in) diameter case attaching bolts at this time.

Install the rear bearing retainer screws (C and D). Install the countersunk screw first; then the Allen screws. Tighten the countersunk screw to 8 Nm (6 ft-lbs) torque and the Allen screws to 10 Nm (8 ft-lbs) torque.

Place the front case in a vertical position in the repair stand with the input shaft facing upward.
