SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE

Information

One or more of the 8 ohm coaxial speakers used with ETR radios in 1983 Wagoneer, Cherokee and Truck models built before December 1, 1982 may cut-out intermittently.

The cut-out problem is caused by the speaker wire leads occasionally touching the speaker frame.

To eliminate this problem, insulate the speaker frame area under the wires with electrical tape as outlined in the following procedure.

1. Remove the door trim panel and peel back the plastic water dam sheet.

2. Disconnect the speaker wires and remove the speaker.

3. Insulate the speaker frame area under the lead wires with electrical tape (see illustration).

4. Reconnect the speaker wires and install the speaker.

5. Reinstall the plastic water dam sheet and the door trim panel.

Cargo Area Mounted Speakers

1. Open the tailgate and remove the interior trim panel.

2. Disconnect the speaker wires and remove the speaker and mounting bracket as an assembly.
