TRANSFER CASE SHIFT SLEEVE USAGE

The shift sleeves used in 1986 Jeep model 228 and Eagle model 128 transfer cases are now available for service use in prior model 129/229 transfer cases.

RANGE AND MODE SLEEVE:

Use range sleeve (A), P/N 8983 502 611, and mode sleeve (B), P/N 8983 502 516, during overhaul or when replacing the viscous coupling in a 1982-85 Jeep model 229 transfer case.

CAUTION: The 1986 mode sleeve is wider and the range sleeve narrower than previous shift sleeves. Do not attempt to interchange the new and previous sleeves. The 1986 sleeves must be installed as a set only.

Use mode sleeve (B), P/N 8983 502 516, during overhaul or when replacing the viscous coupling in a 1982-85 Eagle model 129 transfer case.

Record this I.S. Note in the transfer case overhaul section of the appropriate Eagle/Jeep manual and file it in your M.R. 171 binder.
