Choke Disassembly - Model BBD

NOTE: The choke mechanism on BBD carburetors cannot be serviced with the carburetor on the engine. The carburetor must be removed to properly service the choke components.

Fig. 1 - Model BBD Carburetor Choke Components:

1. Note and record the color and position of the choke housing index key for assembly reference (Fig. 1). The key color indicates basic choke setting.

Fig. 2 - Model BBD Carburetor Choke Cover Rivet Locations:

2. Grind the heads off the choke cover rivets (Fig. 2) and remove the retainer, choke cover and coil, gasket, and baffle. Remove the remaining portion of the rivets after removing the cover.

3. Remove the choke lever screw and the choke lever.

4. Disconnect the choke rod and remove the choke shaft from the housing.

5. Clean and polish the choke shaft and the shaft bore in the housing with crocus cloth.

6. Inspect the choke cover and coil. Replace both components as an assembly if either part is damaged. Replace the cover gasket if damaged and replace the choke lever or baffle if these parts are damaged.
