SUBJECT: Engine Sag/Hesitation on Acceleration
MODELS:
1981-91 (15/SJ) GRAND WAGONEER
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle may exhibit an engine sag/hesitation upon acceleration (throttle tip-in). This condition may occur with warm or cold engine.
DIAGNOSIS:
Verify sag/hesitation symptoms. If a worn accelerator pump appears to be the cause of the condition, perform the following repair.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair involves replacement of the accelerator pump housing and diaphragm with a revised one.
1. Remove the accelerator pump housing retaining bolts and pull the accelerator pump components from the carburetor body (Figure 1).
2. Disconnect the accelerator pump rod from the pump arm.
3. Install the accelerator pump rod to the pump arm on the new pump housing.
4. Being sure that the carburetor-body-to-accelerator-pump-housing surface is clean, install the new accelerator pump components in the carburetor body.
5. Install the accelerator pump housing retaining bolts and tighten.
6. Perform the "Accelerator Pump Stroke Adjustment" procedure as outlined in the fuel section of the appropriate service manual.
