Removal

Fig. 1 Drum brake assembly.:

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assemblies.
3. Release parking brake and loosen lock nuts at parking brake equalizer.
4. Remove rear drum-to-hub locating screws, if equipped.
5. Remove drums.
6. Remove primary return spring, then the automatic adjuster actuating spring and secondary shoe return spring.
7. Remove hold-down springs and brake shoe assemblies.
8. On rear brakes, disengage parking brake cable from parking brake lever.
9. Place suitable clamp over ends of wheel cylinder.
