Removal and Installation

1983 QUADRA-TRAC

1. Raise and support vehicle and drain lubricant from transfer case.
2. Disconnect speedometer cable and indicator switch wires, then the transfer case shift lever link at operating lever.
3. Disconnect parking brake cable guide from pivot on right frame rail, if necessary.
4. Place suitable support under transmission and remove rear crossmember.
5. Scribe alignment marks on transfer case front and rear output shafts at transfer case yokes and propeller shafts for proper assembly.
6. Disconnect front and rear propeller shafts at transfer case yokes and secure out of way.
7. Disconnect shift motor vacuum lines and the transfer case shift linkage.
8. Remove exhaust pipe support bracket to transfer case attaching bolts, if necessary.
9. Remove transfer case to transmission attaching bolts, then move transfer case assembly rearward until free of transmission output shaft and remove assembly.
10. Remove all gasket material from rear of transmission adapter housing.
11. Reverse procedure to install.
