1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then the cylinder head cover.
2. Drain coolant from radiator and engine block.
3. Disconnect electrical connector from oxygen sensor and exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
4. Mark and disconnect all vacuum hoses from cylinder head.
5. Remove alternator and position aside, then disconnect fuel line from carburetor.
6. Disconnect rear heater and upper radiator hoses from cylinder head.
7. Remove power steering pump and bracket and position aside. Do not disconnect power steering hoses.
8. Remove dipstick, rocker arm and pushrod assemblies. Tag rocker arms and pushrods so they can be installed in their original positions.
9. Remove cylinder head attaching bolts.
10. Remove cylinder head by inserting a suitable tool into alternator bracket and prying upward.
11. Reverse procedure to install. Torque cylinder head bolts to 92 ft. lbs. in sequence shown in Fig. 2.
