CONDITION SUMMARY:
BRAKE FLUID LEAK CHECK PRIOR TO REPLACEMENT OF REAR BRAKE CALIPER
Situation:
This bulletin has been issued to provide a brake fluid leak check procedure that must be followed prior to replacing a rear brake caliper. Build fluid that is used in the assembly process of the caliper piston and boot seal may weep out during normal brake system usage, manifesting itself as dampness around the piston seal and caliper.
Action:
If fluid is detected in the area of rear brake caliper piston or seal, prior to replacing the caliper refer to the brake fluid leak check procedure detailed in this bulletin to verify if brake fluid is leaking.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
VERIFY BRAKE FLUID LEAK
1. Raise the vehicle to gain access to the brake caliper.
2. Using Brake and Clutch cleaner clean the affected caliper thoroughly to remove traces of fluid.
3. Allow caliper to dry.
4. Lower vehicle.
5. Start the engine.
6. Apply steady brake pressure until the pedal stops moving.
7. Maintain brake pressure for ten seconds.
8. Release the brake pedal and repeat steps 6-7 for a total of 10 application and release cycles.
9. Switch the engine "OFF".
10. Raise the vehicle to gain access to the brake caliper.
11. Check caliper for any signs of brake fluid around seal.
12. If no brake fluid leak is detected, return vehicle to customer.
NOTE:

13. If a brake fluid leak is detected, refer to GTR section 06-04 (70.55.03) and install a new rear brake caliper.
