Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair
Wheel Knuckle
Removal
1. Remove the brake disc shield. For additional information, refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
2. CAUTION: Prevent the tie-rod end ball joint ball pin hexagon from rotating. Failure to do so may result in damage to the tie-rod end ball joint boot.
Detach the tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle.
3. CAUTION: Prevent the lower ball joint ball pin hexagon from rotating. Failure to do so may result in damage to the lower ball joint boot.
Remove the lower ball joint retaining nut.
4. CAUTION: Prevent the upper ball joint ball pin hexagon from rotating. Failure to do so may result in damage to the upper ball Joint boot.
Detach the wheel knuckle from the upper ball joint.
5. Remove the wheel knuckle.
Installation
1. Install the wheel knuckle.
2. CAUTION: Prevent the upper ball joint ball pin hexagon from rotating. Failure to do so may result in damage to the upper ball joint boot.
Attach the wheel knuckle to the upper ball joint.
^ Tighten to 90 Nm.
3. CAUTION: Prevent the lower ball joint ball pin hexagon from rotating. Failure to do so may result in damage to the lower ball joint boot.
Install the lower ball joint retaining nut.
^ Tighten to 150 Nm.
4. CAUTION: Prevent the tie-rod end ball joint ball pin hexagon from rotating. Failure to do so may result in damage to the tie-rod end ball joint boot.
Attach the tie-rod end to the wheel knuckle.
^ Tighten to 75 Nm.
5. Install the brake disc shield. For additional information, refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
6. Check, and if necessary, adjust the toe setting. For additional information, refer to Alignment
