Evaporator Core: Description and Operation

The evaporator, located within the air conditioning / heater unit behind the center console, is the system low side heat exchanger. In the low pressure (compressor suction) evaporator, the refrigerant boils from the heat of the cabin air passing over the fins. As the refrigerant boils, it changes to vapor.
