Remove and destroy Bulletin 05.1-11, dated 11/95. Replace with this Bulletin. Revisions are shown with asterisks.
* ISSUE:
* A number of 1995 XJ12 vehicles have still not been modified in accordance with this service action campaign. Failure to carry out this repair may, over time, lead to degradation of the catalytic converter that may cause the vehicle to fail in an emissions test. For this reason Jaguar Cars North America will write to all owners of vehicle within the above VIN range who have not already had this modification carried out, asking them to contact their nearest dealer to install new check valves on their vehicle.*
A revised check valve for the Secondary Air Injection System is available for XJ12 vehicles within the above VIN range to eliminate unnecessary illumination of the MIL.
ACTION:
Replace both check valves on 1995 MY XJ12 vehicles within the above VIN range with Part No. NAC 4793BA. Two valves are required per vehicle.
This procedure should be performed at PDI prior to vehicle hand-over. On vehicles in service, the check valve should be replaced at the first service opportunity or in the case of a customer complaint.
NOTE:
Because of the shallow depth of the hex nut which is part of the check valve, a "thin jaw" 27 mm open end wrench is required for the following procedure. Snap-On part no. FC 34A - chrome, or GFC 34A - black anodized, can be used when ground down to 5 mm.
1. Beginning with the A bank, loosen the hose clamp and remove the hose from the check valve.
2. Use a 27 mm open end wrench as described above, to remove the check valve from the air rail.
3. Install a new folded copper sealing ring washer Part No. C 45759/3 to the replacement check valve, Part No. NAC 4793BA. The new valve can be identified by a white stripe painted around the circumference.
4. Install the check valve and washer on the air rail. Tighten the check valve only enough to compress the copper washer to ensure an air tight seal.
5. Reconnect the hose and tighten the hose clamp.
6. Repeat steps 1-6 for the check valve on the B bank.
7. Use the WDS to clear DTC P0410. Any other codes that are matched must be diagnosed further.
