Enhanced Emission Control System Warranty - Extended Coverage - Service Action S700
Remove and destroy Bulletin 05.2-17, amended 09/00. Replace with this Bulletin. Revisions are shown with asterisks.
* FEDERAL EMISSION WARRANTY EXTENSION
The Federal Emissions Warranty is extended to 14 years from the date the vehicle was first sold or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.
FREE SERVICE PROVISION
One free service will be provided anytime between 60,000 and 90,000 miles as detailed below:
^ Free oil change and filter.
^ OBDII system scan for stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
^ Visual inspection of the emission control system.
^ The replacement of defective parts indicated by stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
One free service will be provided anytime between 90,000 and 120,000 miles as detailed below:
^ Free oil change and filter.
^ OBDII system scan for stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
^ Visual inspection of the emission control system.
^ The replacement of defective parts indicated by stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).*
ISSUE:
The Emissions-related Design and Defects Warranty and the Emissions Performance Warranty have been extended to 14 years from the original in-service date or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. All components on the 8 years/ 80,000 miles Emissions Parts List are now covered for 14 years/150,000 miles (see Warranty Manual.)
If a customer's vehicle fails to pass a state emissions inspection, and the failure is caused by an emission component listed under the 2 year/24,000 miles emission component list, the component will be covered.
The US Environmental Protection Agency believes that certain misfire detection systems are not operating as originally designed for XJ12 vehicles equipped with the NipponDenso engine management system which complies with the On Board Diagnostics II standard (OBDII). (This does not apply to 6.0L XJS models which are OBD I.)
In an agreement negotiated with the EPA, Jaguar will enhance the emission control system warranty for the 1995-96 MY XJ12 and provide two specific emission related services, free of charge, for the vehicles during the duration of the enhancement.
A letter has been mailed to the current owners of these cars notifying them of the enhancement and the additional services.
A second letter will be sent as a reminder 9 years after the first retail delivery of the 1995-96 MY XJ12 (2004 for 1995 MY vehicles and 2005 for 1996 MY vehicles.)
ACTION:
Inspect the emission control system of all vehicles covered by this warranty extension between 60,000 and 90,000 miles and again between 90,000 miles and 120,000 miles.
1. * Use the S700 Inspection Report Form and visually check for proper appearance of the following under hood components:*
^ Crankcase ventilation system
^ Fuel evaporative controls
^ Catalyst
^ Ignition spark controls
^ Fuel injection
^ 02 sensor and connector
^ Vacuum line connections to sensors and switches
^ Wiring of other sensors/switches/computer
^ Secondary air injection system
2. Make the following functional checks:
^ Fuel fill pipe restricter
^ Inspect fuel cap and verify it is the correct cap
^ Check Engine Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)
3. Check the ECM for any DTCs.
4. Repair or replace any components identified by DTCs or visual inspection as being defective.
5. Perform an engine oil and filter change at no charge to the customer.
