ISSUE:

Noise/creaks which seem to be coming from the top of the facia due to the windshield lower finisher vibrating within the plastic edge finisher.

ACTION:

From VIN 183562 an adhesive bond has been applied to affix the windshield lower finisher to the plastic edge finisher.

If facia noise/creaks occur on pre-VIN 183562 vehicles, use the following repair procedure.

NOTE:
This repair should be used on a customer ccmplaint basis only.

^ Apply masking tape to the scuttle panel to avoid paint damage. Carefully run a thin sharp knife blade between the scuttle panel and the plastic edge finisher to sever the sealant bond between these two parts, (Fig. 1).

^ Starting at the plenum end of the plastic edge finisher, gently pry it from the windshield lower finisher.

^ Clean the scuttle panel using 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (3M part number 08984) to remove any residual sealant.

^ Apply 3M Black Sealant (08509) between the lower screen finisher and the scuttle canel, (Fig. 2).

^ Apply a small amount of 3M Black Sealant to the "U" channel along the full length of the plastic edge finisher, then install the finisher on the vehicle.

^ Using a soft cloth, wipe off any excess sealant. Allow the sealant to dry for approximately one hour.
