Safety Recall Campaign D325

Dear Jaguar Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Jaguar Cars Exports Ltd. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in a range of 1988 model year Jaguar XJ6 3.6 and Vanden Plas vehicles. This range includes your vehicle as identified by the Vehicle Identification Number on the enclosed "Campaign Claim" form. The Vehicle Identification Number quoted on the "Campaign Claim" form is also stamped on a metal plate attached to the lefthand side of the windshield frame of your Jaguar.

The possibility exists that the bolts securing the lower road spring retainer pan may fail due to stress corrosion. In the event the spring pan bolts should fail, the vehicle's suspension may settle onto the bump stop on one side or the other. However, no loss of steering or braking will result.

You should take immediate action in accordance with the terms of this letter.

You are requested to contact your selling dealer (if this proves inconvenient, contact any authorized Jaguar dealer) and make an appointment to have the lower road spring retainer pan fasteners replaced without charge to you.

The labor time to complete the repair ranges from one to two hours. Parts will be available at your dealer commencing March 2, 1988.

Please be sure to sign the "Campaign Claim" form in the space provided and present it to your dealer upon completion of the work. The dealer will then send us the form so that we can be sure your vehicle has been attended to.

If you no longer own this vehicle, please refer to the instructions on the last page of the "Campaign Claim" form and, if possible, provide the name and address of the present owner in order that we may send the necessary recall notification.

If, after you have contacted your dealer, you experience any difficulties in obtaining the necessary repairs, please contact the Jaguar Cars Inc. Zone Office (listed below) for your area. Your Passport to Service contains a listing of states covered by each Zone.

If your dealer does not carry out this work without charge and within 60 days of your first delivering the vehicle for repairs (beginning on or after March 2, 1988), you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the toll-free Auto Safety Hotline at 800-424-9393.
