XJ-S Oil Sump Sandwich Plate Sealing-New Procedure

MODEL XJ-S DATE 5/91


ISSUE:

A new sealing procedure should now be used when replacing the sump sandwich plate gasket (as per Repair Operation 12.60.45 in the XJ-S Repair Manual).

FIG. 1:

ACTION:

^ Make sure that the old gasket is completely removed

^ Apply a bead of sealant (3 mm wide and 10 mm long) in the middle of the "joint line" between the cylinder block and the rear main bearing cap (Fig. 1).

FIG. 2:

^ Apply a small bead of sealant (3 mm diameter) to the middle of the split line between the timing cover and the sump face, (Fig. 2). Install sump sandwich gasket.
