Owner Letter

Safety Recall Campaign R351

Dear Jaguar Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Jaguar Cars Exports Ltd. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in all model variants of 1978 to 1991 model year Jaguar XJ-S (excluding convertibles by Hess & Eisenhardt). This range includes your vehicle as identified by the Vehicle Identification Number on the enclosed "Campaign Claim" form. The Vehicle Identification Number quoted on the "Campaign Claim" form is also stamped on a metal plate attached to the left-hand side of the windshield frame of your Jaguar.

On vehicles bearing a VIN number within this range, the possibility exists that excessive fuel vapor pressure can develop. Pressure variations within the fuel tank which occur during normal running could weaken the structure of the fuel tank causing a fuel leak with the resultant possibility of a fire.

You should take immediate action in accordance with the terms of this letter as follows:

You are requested to contact your selling dealer (if this proves inconvenient, contact any authorized Jaguar dealer) and make an appointment to have your vehicle repaired, without charge to you, by the installation of an evaporative loss modification kit (this kit will reduce vapor pressure in the tank).

The labor time to complete the repair is approximately three hours. Initial parts supply will be available at your dealer on December 24, 1990.

Please be sure to sign the "Campaign Claim" form in the space provided and present it to your dealer upon completion of the work. The dealer will then send us the form so that we can be sure your vehicle has been attended to.

If you no longer own this vehicle, please refer to the instructions on the last page of the "Campaign Claim" form and, if possible, provide the name and address of the present owner in order that we may send the necessary recall notification.
If, after you have contacted your dealer, you experience any difficulties in obtaining the necessary repairs, please contact the Jaguar Cars Inc. Zone Office (listed below) for your area.

Your Passport to Service contains a listing of states covered by each Zone.

If your dealer does not carry out this work without charge and within 60 days of your first delivering the vehicle for repairs (beginning on or after December 24, 1990), you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Washington D.C. 20590, or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393. (Washington D.C. area residents may call 366-0123). We request that you also contact the Customer Relations Department at Jaguar Cars Inc., 555 MacArthur Boulevard, Mahwah, New Jersey 07430 (201) 818-8500.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause you, but we know you will understand that this action is taken to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
