Parking Brake Cable: Adjustments

NOTE: Handbrake calipers adjust automatically. Generally, the only reason to adjust the cable would be after replacing it or if it has stretched. If the handbrake does not work properly, the possibility of a stuck caliper adjuster or other problem, is likely.

1. Be sure handbrake lever is "FULLY OFF".

Handbrake Cable Adjustment:

2. Lift sill carpet adjacent to rear of driver's seat for access and loosen cable lock and adjusting nuts.

Rear Brake Pads:

3. Be sure caliper levers are in "FULLY OFF" position by pressing levers toward outside of car.
4. Adjust parking brake cable so there is a small amount of slack with lever off. If the cable is adjusted so that all slack is removed, the handbrake pads can drag and the calipers will not adjust.
5. Tighten cable adjuster locknut.
