IMPULSE (JI) REAR COMBINATION LAMP CONDENSATION

AFFECTED VEHICLES

All 1990-91 Impulse models.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Under damp conditions, moisture entry through the side marker lens may cause condensation to form in the lower part of the rear combination lamp. Moisture entry may be eliminated by applying RTV sealant to the rear side marker bulb housing.

This Service Bulletin describes how to remove the condensation from the lamp housing, and how to prevent moisture entry by applying RTV sealant to the rear side marker bulb housing.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear combination lamp housing as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual.

2. Remove condensation from the lower part of the lamp housing as follows:

a. Invert the housing to pour out water.
b. Wipe the inside of the housing with an absorbent towel.

c. Apply LOW heat with a heated blow dryer (Figure 1) to evaporate any remaining moisture.

CAUTION
Use care to avoid damaging the lamp housing. Do not use high heat. Do not apply heat too closely to the plastic housing.

3. To prevent moisture entry, apply a small amount of RTV sealant at the base of the rear side marker bulb wires, as shown in Figure 1.

4. Reinstall the rear combination lamp housing as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual.
