Non-Turbo
Air Induction System (Non-Turbo):
An ECM controlled vacuum switching valve (VSV) is utilized to control the reed valve/air induction valve of the air induction (injection) system. The ECM operates the VSV under these conditions:
1. When the engine is started and already at operating temperature, the VSV is energized to introduce air into the exhaust manifold for 3 seconds and then cut.
2. When the engine is cold or engine speed is greater than 4000 rpm, the VSV will be de-energized to prevent catalytic converter overheating.
3. When the engine is at operating temperature, the ECM uses engine rpm, coolant temperature and throttle position inputs in its VSV control calculations.
