Fuel Tank Unit: Service and Repair
Fuel Tank UnitThe fuel tank unit is a float-controlled variable resistor (rheostat). It is mounted on the top of the fuel tank and has a float arm extending inside the tank. The position of the float moves the float arm across the rheostat, thus determining the amount of current sent to the fuel gage in the vehicle. Some models use a protective top to shield the top of the fuel tank unit.
If the fuel tank unit or the dash fuel gage has become inoperative, the only remedy is to replace the inoperative unit.
