Brake Rotor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in Cautions and Notices.

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in Cautions and Notices.






1. Inspect the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
2. If the brake fluid is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.






3. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between thew maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, using an appropriate tool, remove the brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.






4. Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement.






5. Remove the wheel hub/speed sensor assembly. Refer to Wheel Hub/Speed Sensor Replacement.






Important: In the following service procedure, support the wheel hub/brake rotor assembly with wood when working on the bench.

6. Using two pieces of wood, support the wheel hub/brake rotor assembly.
7. Remove the wheel hub/speed sensor to brake rotor bolts.






8. Separate the brake rotor from the wheel bearing/hub assembly.
9. Clean the surface between the wheel bearing/hub assembly and the brake rotor.

Installation Procedure






1. PositIon the wheel bearlng/hub on the brake rotor.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.






2. Install the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.

^ Tighten the mounting bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 27 Nm ( 20 lb ft ).






3. Install the steering knuckle assembly. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement.






4. Install the wheel bearing/hub, brake rotor assembly In the steering knuckle. Refer to Wheel Hub/Speed Sensor Replacement.
5. Lower the vehicle.






6. Inspect the fluid level. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling.
7. Burnish the brakes. Refer to Burnishing Pads and Rotors.
