Delayed Front Windshield Washer Fluid Spray

This Bulletin Supercedes SB06-11-S009.

Affected Vehicles:
2006-2008 Isuzu Ascender

Service Information

This Bulletin is being revised to add the 2007 and 2008 model years add procedures include part numbers and update the information.

Condition:

Some customers may comment on a delayed windshield washer fluid spray with the wipers going through a few cycles before liquid is squirted through the washer nozzles.

Possible Cause:

The windshield washer pump may lose pump prime when the washer fluid level is approximately 1/3 or less in the windshield washer container.

Correction:

Install a windshield washer check valve. Do not replace the windshield washer pump.

Service Procedure

Technicians are to install a windshield washer check valve in place of the barbed fitting at the front windshield washer hose following the steps below:

1. Open the hood.





2. Locate the front windshield washer hose at the plastic barbed fitting (1) by the radiator surge tank along the right front fender.

3. Remove the front windshield washer hose from the radiator surge tank retainer.

4. Disconnect the plastic barbed fitting (1) from the air inlet panel washer hose (2) as shown above.





5. Using a pair of pliers remove the plastic barbed fifting from the front washer hose and discard.

IMPORTANT:
The new windshield washer check valve may be installed in any direction.

6. Install the new windshield washer check valve to the front windshield washer hose.

7. Install the air inlet panel washer hose to the other end of the new windshield washer check valve.

8. Install the front windshield washer hose back into the radiator surge tank retainer.

9. Close the hood.

10. Verify the proper operation of the windshield washers.
