EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection

Quick Check
1. Depress the Diaphragm with finger to see that it operates smoothly through the full stroke.
2. Make a test with the Engine running at idle to see that the Engine idling becomes rough when the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve is forced open.

NOTE: Leakage in the EGR Valve causes rough Engine idling. To check EGR Valve for leakage, disconnect EGR Valve piping at Exhaust Manifold side and see if Engine idling becomes smooth.

Operations Check
1. Check for operation of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve by applying signal vacuum.

2. Check for defects of signal hoses.
Throttle Body --> Vacuum Regulator --> Duty Solenoid VSV; EGR Cut --> EGR Valve

3. Apply vacuum signal to the EGR Valve through the Duty Solenoid. With the wheels turning and the Engine running at 1/4 to 1/2 Throttle, the EGR Valve should open.

4. Apply vacuum signal directly to the EGR Valve. The EGR Valve should open. If it does not, replace the EGR Valve.
