CONSULT LOCKS-UP WITH UE990 PROGRAM CARD

SERVICE INFORMATION

This bulletin outlines a condition in which the CONSULT unit will lock-up during use of the UE990 program card when diagnosing engine systems on 1998 or 1999 model year vehicles. Engine system diagnosis is displayed on the CONSULT screen as Engine ('98MY). The bulletin also provides instruction on how to unlock CONSULT if lock-up occurs.

UE991 Program Card

The UE991 program card (scheduled for release in November, 1998) contains an updated version of Engine ('98MY) and will not lock-up under the conditions described above. The UE991 also has CONSULT support for SRT, HICAS, Active Suspension, Auto A/C, TCM, and Auto D/P.

The UE991 program card is designed to be the primary card. Therefore, please initialize the UE991 card before using the UE990 and UE999 (IVCS) series of cards. The UE990 and UE999 will function as sub-cards to the UE991.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

CONSULT Lock-up

While using the UE990 program card to diagnose engine systems [Engine ('98MY)] on 1998 or 1999 model year vehicles, the CONSULT unit will lock-up if the ignition key is turned off as part of a diagnostic procedure. When this happens, the CONSULT screen will display "WAIT", then change to "WAITING". After these messages are displayed, the unit has locked up and will not function properly.

Unlocking The CONSULT Unit

To unlock CONSULT after this condition occurs:

1. First press the "MODE" key.

2. Then press the "BACK" key.

3. You will then be able to select a diagnostic mode.
