Window Glass Retaining Button Replacement

WINDOW GLASS RETAINING BUTTON REPLACEMENT

SERVICE INFORMATION:




If a Q45 vehicle, built before the Applied Date, has Window Glass Retaining Buttons (Figure 1) which show signs of corrosion or paint peeling, a new Window Button is available which is made of corrosion resistant material. This Technical Bulletin describes the procedure for replacement of the Window Glass Retaining Buttons.


SERVICE PROCEDURE:

FRONT DOOR

1. Lower window glass.
2. Remove the inside door finisher. (3 screws and retaining clips).
3. Remove the speaker assembly. (4 screws)
4. Remove the rear pillar finisher. (2 screws)
5. Remove the rear guide rail assembly (4 screws; be careful not to damage the screw head when removing, these screws are secured with a "threadlocker" type-compound).
6. Remove the triangle-shaped finisher behind the door mirror. (2 screws)
7. Remove the front guide rail. (3 screws)
8. With the window raised, front and rear buttons are accessible.

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT DETAILS FOR FRONT BUTTONS




a.) The buttons can be separated from the rollers by gripping the squared portion, located just below the rollers and unscrewing while pushing on the glass button to prevent it from rotating (Figure 2)

b.) Be careful to remove all remnants of RTV Silicone Sealant from the button-glass interface.

c.) Prior to reassembling, apply Permatex Clear Silicone RTV Sealant, P/N 66B/BR, or equivalent, into the gap between the glass and the button. This will effectively seal the interface against water entry.

d.) Apply pressure to the outside of the button to prevent it from rotating; use a small, needle nose vise grip or other locking pliers to tighten the window buttons to 4.3-5.8 ft-lbs. Be careful not to scratch the window glass during this procedure.

9. Assemble the door panel in the reverse order.

REAR DOOR

1. Lower window glass.
2. Remove the inside door finisher and protective plastic. (3 screws at handle; 2 screws behind ashtray)
3. Remove the front pillar finisher. (2 screws)
4. Remove the front guide rail assembly. (4 screws; be careful not to damage the screw head when removing, these screws are secured with a "threadlocker" type-compound).
5. Remove the triangle-shaped finisher at rear of glass. (2 screws)
6. Remove the rear guide rail. (3 screws)
7. With the window raised, front and rear buttons are accessible.

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT DETAILS FOR REAR BUTTONS

8. Assemble the door panel in reverse order of disassembly.
