INCIDENT SUMMARY:
During quality checks at the factory, a "logic error" was found in the Sony CD Auto Changer. When the CD changes, the unit may stop playing if a CD is not fully reinserted into the magazine from the carrier. This will result in an "ERR" message on the Audio Head Unit display. This incident may occur on fairly new CD Auto Changer Units when outside temperatures are cold. After an initial "break-in" period (about 100-200 CD disc selections), this incident is not likely to occur.
This incident may occur on Factory or Dealer-installed Sony CD Auto Changers in the Applicable VIN/Production Date range.
SERVICE INFORMATION:
The repair involves the removal and replacement of the CD Auto Changer unit located inside the trunk.
New replacement units can be obtained through Sony by contacting the Sony Exchange Hotline (see PARTS INFORMATION). The unit exchange [repair] time is 0.5 hours.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
I. Removal
1. Remove the battery negative (-) terminal to avoid short Circuits.
2. Remove the Auto Changer trim (Figure 1).
3. Remove the CD Auto Changer and disconnect it from the vehicle harness (Figures 2 & 3)
4. Detach the brackets [front and rear]. (Figure 4)
II. Re-Installation
1. Attach the brackets to the new CD Auto Changer.
2. Attach the vehicle harness and secure the CD Auto Changer to the vehicle (see Figure 3).
3. Attach the Auto Changer trim (see Figure 1).
4. Reconnect the battery negative (-) terminal. Confirm that the radio works properly and the CD starts playing when the "play" button on the CD player is pressed.

The countermeasured units can be identified in the vehicle by looking inside the magazine slot for a small 5x5 mm square black mark (Figure 5)
