SERVICE INFORMATION
Some vehicles may exhibit an A/C compressor pumping noise that may be heard under the following conditions:
Just after the A/C is turned "ON" (during idle or driving)
While idling with the A/C "ON" (After driving)
The noise is transmitted through the A/C low pressure pipe at the dash panel and through the evaporator.
If a customer complains of an A/C compressor pumping noise during the conditions mentioned above, perform the following service procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1) Check the A/C low pressure pipe at the dash panel. It should be located at the center of the grommet. (Fig. A) Reposition the A/C low pressure pipe if necessary.
2) Check the A/C pipes in the cooling unit. Do the pipes interfere with the cooling unit? (Fig. B). Reposition the A/C pipes in the cooling unit if necessary.
Confirm if incident is corrected. If the compressor pumping noise is still present, perform the following:
3) Check the high side pressure of the compressor (outlet) when the incident is occurring during idle. If the pressure is less than 10 kg/sq.cm (142 psi), replace the thermal expansion valve and the high pressure pipe inside the case with the countermeasure parts listed under Parts Information.
