Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair
AIR BAG DISARM1. Turn ignition Off, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Wait at least 10 minutes after disconnecting the ground cable before performing any service procedures. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is designed to retain enough voltage to deploy the air bag for a short time even after the ground cable has been disconnected. Performing service before the minimum 10 minute lapse may cause unwanted deployment and possible injury.
AIR BAG ARM
1. Turn ignition Off, ensure nobody is inside vehicle, then connect battery ground cable.
2. Turn ignition On and note air bag warning lamp operation, which should light for approximately 7 seconds, then go off.
3. If lamp remains On, does not light, or continues to flash, there is an SRS fault. Refer to Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems) for System Diagnosis and Testing.
