SERVICE INFORMATION:
Some J30 owners may complain of a rattle noise from the rear seat, rear parcel shelf, or trunk area. The noise may be duplicated by going over speed bumps or entering/exiting driveways, which may cause body flex. The noise may be attributed to the rear seat access panel - located behind the scat - rubbing against the body panel. Insulating the panels, as described below, will resolve this incident.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the rear seat assembly, as shown on page BF-56 of the 1993 J30 Service Manual.
2. Remove the access panel behind the rear seat back. You should be able to identify where the two (2) panels have been rubbing together (Figure 1).
3. Test drive the vehicle with the rear seat and panel removed. At this point, with the rear seat back panel removed, the rattle should be eliminated. If not, please contact the FIXS Hotline at 1-800-322-3121.
4. If the rattle is caused by the incident panel, place one (1) 20 mm x 25 mm felt strip on the left and right side of the panel (see Figure 1).
5. Reinstall the panel and test drive the vehicle to verify that the rattle has been eliminated.
6. Reinstall the rear seat assembly.
