SERVICE INFORMATION
On some J30 vehicles equipped with a cellular phone (using the in-glass antenna), customers may complain of static noise in the phone, poor reception or dropped calls. Interference from the Bose amplifier may be blocking the phone signal in the antenna coaxial cable. Installing a ferrite ring (toroid) on the cable as described will resolve this incident.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the forward trunk finisher to access the antenna cable.
2. Disconnect the cable from the transceiver and cut all fasteners holding the cable in place.
3. Gently pull the cable so that all the slack is below the parcel shelf.
4. Slide the toroid onto the cable and wrap the cable around the toroid twice, as shown in the illustration. The toroid must be positioned as close as possible to the in-glass antenna (just below the parcel shelf grommet as shown).
5. The cable should be wrapped tightly around the toroid with wire ties securing it as illustrated.
6. Wrap the toroid with electrical tape.
7. Route the cable to the transceiver making sure it doesn't contact the Bose speaker or any vehicle wires. Check to be sure the toroid doesn't contact the parcel shelf or anything that it will rattle against.
8. Inspect the end of the antenna cable, making sure the mini-UHF connector is secured to the cable and connect to the transceiver. Ensure a tight connection at the transceiver.
