1993-94 J3O (JY32) ABS WARNING LIGHT "ON" - IMPROPER OPERATION

NOTE:
This is a revised Bulletin to provide new information concerning vehicle production dates, countermeasure and diagnosis information.

ABS Control Unit Connector Loose: PMO17515/September 25, 1992

ABS Body Harness Damaged at Rear Parcel Shelf: RM104OO8/October 12, 1993

ABS Control Unit Diode: PM033948/May 25, 1993; Part Lot # 365-

SERVICE INFORMATION:
If an Infiniti J3O (JY32) ABS Warning Light does not operate properly or intermittently illuminates, the incident may be caused by one of the following:

1. The connector for the ABS Control Unit is loose or not seated, causing an open circuit.

2. There is a loose positive (+) and/or negative (-) battery cable connection (Code: 57, 61, or 71).

3. The ABS body harness is chafed where it attaches at the rear parcel shelf. (Figure 1)

4. The ABS Control Unit is not operational due to a failed diode.

REPAIR INFORMATION:

1. Note and clear any error codes stored in the ABS Control Unit. [Reference = 1993 Infiniti J30 Service Manual: Pages BR 33 - 37]

a. Re-secure the ABS connector, ensuring that the connector is properly inserted and locked.

b. Check and re-secure the positive and negative battery cable connections.

c. Then, test drive the vehicle several miles to ensure no ABS incidents re-occur.

2. If this does not eliminate the problem, follow the Diagnosis Procedures in the 1993 Infiniti J30 Service Manual: Pages BR 44 - 50

a. Especially, evaluate the ABS body harness for chafing where it attaches at the rear parcel shelf. (refer to Figure 1) If damaged, repair and/or replace the harness. Clear the ABS code(s) by disconnecting the battery for one (1) minute.

b. Test drive vehicle to ensure that ABS code(s) do not reappear.

c. If the ABS code does reappear, replace ABS Control Unit. Clear the ABS code(s).

d. Test drive vehicle, once again, to ensure that the ABS light is extinquished.

e. If the ABS light/code(s) reappear, contact your Regional DTS.
