J30 CELLULAR PHONE INTERFERENCE

APPLIED MODEL: 1993-94 Infiniti J30

APPLIED VIN/DATE: All

SERVICE INFORMATION

Some owners of J30 vehicles equipped with a cellular phone (using the in-glass antenna) may complain of static noise, poor reception, and dropped calls. This interference may be resolved by performing one or all of the following procedures:

1) Ferrite ring (toroid) installation (ref. Technical Bulletin ITB92-042).
2) Install earth ground lead.
3) Insure no metallic-based window tints are installed on any window surface.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Ferrite Ring (toroid)

Insure that the toroid ring is installed properly (refer to ITB92-042).

Earth Ground Lead

1) Remove rear parcel shelf finisher.
2) Locate the end of the coaxial cable, where it is soldered to the in-glass antenna.
3) Strip back about 1/2" inch of the coaxial cable outer protective covering, exposing the ground/shielding.
4) Solder an 18 AWG wire to the coax ground/shielding.
5) Crimp a hardware lug to the other end of the 18 AWG wire and attach it to the rear speaker hardware.

Metallic Window Tints

Metallic window tints will severely impact telephone reception by shorting the antenna's ground plane to the antenna itself. These tints can also affect reception when applied to the side window glass. Metallic-based tints should be removed from all window surfaces or a pigtail style antenna should be used.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

Note:
Repairs caused by customer installation of metallic window tints are not warrantable.
