INFINITI J30 CD PLAYER: WARNING CONCERNING AFTERMARKET AUTOCHANGER INSTALLATION

APPLIED MODELS:
1993 J30

SERVICE INFORMATION:

The OEM J30 CD Player is a "Double DIN Space" single stack unit which utilizes a unique, "differential noise suppression" circuit. This differential noise suppression circuit measures the input from two (2) signals to adjust the signal amplification. Infiniti is not currently offering a trunk mount type CD Autochanger for the J30, due to packaging limitations, the existence of the factory-installed, single stack, in-dash unit, and the technical considerations detailed in this Bulletin.

At this time, it is not possible to replace this OEM, "Double DIN Space" single stack unit with an aftermarket CD Player/Autochanger [either single stack or multiple stack trunk mount]. Dealers attempting to install any aftermarket CD Player/Autochanger would find that the input signals are not compatible with the J30 Audio Head Unit.

Although an RF-type aftermarket CD Autochanger would function, its major drawback would be noticeable degradation of CD sound. This type of Autochanger utilizes an RF modulator which converts CD input to an FM radio signal, which is routed back through the vehicle antenna cable and, then, through the audio head unit. Even with proper adapters, the aftermarket CD

Autochangers using an RF modulator results in degradation of CD sound quality due to losses in digital to analog conversion and the introduction of RFI/EMI interference noise from the FM tuner and antenna systems.

Infiniti, at this time, strongly discourages the addition of an aftermarket CD Player/Autochanger to the 1993 J30.
