Service Information
Infiniti is amending the Q45 Air Conditioning System Evaluation service program (ITB91-044) by using a new receiver/dryer flushing procedure to collect any contamination which may be found inside the A/C system. Contamination inside the A/C system can plug the receiver/dryer and lead to poor cooling. This new procedure applies to vehicles built before VIN number 110557.It is no longer necessary to use the A & B kits (B7001-60U25 and B7002-60U25) from the former service program - they have been superseded by this new flushing procedure along with a new receiver/dryer which has an increased capacity for absorbing and reducing moisture inside the A/C system (moisture contributes to formation of contaminates). The former A & B kits were installed when enough contamination (corrosion) was found inside the receiver/dryer to restrict refrigerant flow. High temperatures when initially operating the compressor after an extended storage at the ports and receiver/dryer performance can be major factors in the formation of contaminates.
A new compressor was developed which incorporated an oil return groove to reduce compressor start-up temperatures. The oil return groove is not necessary on compressors that have been in service ("broken-in") and we do not expect any additional contamination to form with the improved receiver/dryer. The new flushing procedure is effective in removing system contamination which may have formed because of high compressor start-up temperatures and is easier to perform than the former procedure.
This Technical Bulletin specifically applies to all 1990-91 vehicles built prior to VIN number 110557 which may have plugged receivers. Follow the A/C Flushing Procedure flowcharts on the following page to determine the exact nature of service you will perform. You must refer to the Service Manual for any other A/C related complaints to properly diagnose the actual root cause of the customer complaint.
