FRONT DRIVESHAFT (GLAEUZER INTERNAL JOINT-ANGULAR CONTACT JOINT TYPE)COMPONENTS
DISASSEMBLY
NOTE:
^ Do not disassemble the tripod assembly.
^ Special grease must be applied to the driveshaft joint.
^ The boot clamp should be replaced with a new one.
^ The boot should be replaced with a new one.
1. Using a side cutter, out the Glaeuzer Internal joint and Angular Contact joint big clamps and remove them.
2. Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the Glaeuzer Internal joint and Angular Contact joint small clamps.
3. Place matchmarks on the tripod and tulip.
NOTE: Do not punch the mark.
4. Remove the tulip assembly from the driveshaft. In a right driveshaft, remove the dust cover first from the shaft, using specified tools (09415-53000, 09551-31000)
NOTE: Do not disassemble the joint.
5. Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.
6. Place matchmarks on the tripod and joint shaft.
NOTE: Do not punch the marks.
7. Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the tripod from the joint shaft.
NOTE: Do not tap the roller.
8. Remove the Angular Contact joint boot clamps and pull out the Glaeuzer Internal joint boot and Angular Contact joint boot.
INSPECTION
1. Check for entry of water and/or foreign material into Angular Contact joint.
2. Check the tripod assembly for roller rotation, wear or corrosion.
3. Check the groove inside tulip for wear or corrosion.
REASSEMBLY
1. Wrap the driveshaft splines (Glaeuzer Internal joint side) with vinyl tape to prevent the boots from being damaged as they are installed.
2. Place 3 new clamps in the small boot ends and the large boot end (Angular Contact joint side).
3. After aligning the matchmark placed before removal, place the beveled side of the tripod axial spline toward the Angular Contact joint.
4. Using a 19mm socket and hammer, tap in the tripod to the driveshaft.
NOTE: Do not tap the roller.
5. Install a new snap ring.
6. Add the specified grease to the Angular Contact joint and boot as much as was wiped away in the inspection step.
Specified grease: CENTURY
Grease quantity: 120 gr.
7. Apply the specified grease to the Glaeuzer Internal joint and boot.
Specified grease: One luber GKN
Grease quantity: 175 gr.
8. Align the matchmarks placed before removal and install the Glaeuzer Internal joint to the shaft.
9. Install the boots.
NOTE:
^ Make sure that 2 boots are on the shaft groove.
^ Make sure that the 2 boots are not stretched or contracted.
10. Position the holes in the clamp's free end to the closing hooks.
11. Using pliers, secure the clamps.
Clearance (A)
Angular Contact big clamp: 2.0 mm (0.079 inch) or less
Angular Contact small clamp: 1.8 mm (0.071 inch) or less
CAUTION: The boots and the clamps should be provided from the same manufacturer.
12. To control the volume of air in the Glaeuzer Internal joint boot, keep the specified distance between the boot clamps when they are tightened.
A/T: Auto Transmission
13. Holding the Glaeuzer Internal joint big clamp near the closing hook, using long noise pliers, position the hole in the clamps free end on the closing hook.
14. Secure the clamp by drawing the closing hooks together.
15. Using pliers, secure the Glaeuzer Internal joint small clamp
Clearance (A)
Glaeuzer Internal joint small clamp: 1.6 mm (0.063 inch) or less
16. Install the dust cover with a plastic hammer.
