1999 SONATA 2.4L RADIO INTERFERENCE FIELD FIX

DESCRIPTION:

Some 1999 2.4L Sonata vehicles produced prior to 12/14/98 may experience radio interference. This bulletin provides a procedure for adding a noise suppression condenser to the control harness.

PROCEDURE:

1. Remove the plastic spark plug cover (four 10mm socket bolts).

2. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose and the PCV hose at the intake manifold. Disconnect the PCV Hose from the valve cover.

3. Remove the two 10 mm bolts holding the throttle bracket in place. Unclip the throttle cable from the cable retaining clip and lift the cables up to gain access to the fuel injector cover.

4. Remove the two 10 mm bolts from the plastic cover over the fuel injectors. Remove the cover.

5. Disconnect the large connector from its mounting by pushing upward on the connector mounting tab with an angled pick. (see step 6)

6. Using an angled pick tool, push the locking tab up and remove the large connector from its mounting bracket.

7. Disconnect the injectors, coils, ignition failure sensor and the power steering oil pressure switch connectors and remove the old harness (make note of the exact harness routing).

8. Install the new wiring harness in exactly the same way as the old harness.

9. Remove the camshaft position sensor mounting bolt.

10. Using the same bolt, install the new condenser over the camshaft position sensor.

11. Reinstall all removed components in reverse order.
