Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation

CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR
The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor consists of a magnet and coil located next to the flywheel. The flywheel teeth are used by the CKP sensor to generate a signal. The voltage signal from CKP sensor allows the Engine Control Module (ECM) to determine engine RPM and crankshaft position.
