Removal

1. Using the Special Service Tool (SST) disconnect the lower arm ball joint from the knuckle.

NOTE: Loosen the nut but do not remove it. Be sure to suitably support the cord to the special tool then, to a nearby part.

2. Remove the stabilizer link mounting self-locking nut, and detach the stabilizer bar from the lower arm.

NOTE: After removing the arm inspect for the following:
- Check the bushing for wear and deterioration.
- Check the lower arm for bending or breakage.
- Check the clamp for deterioration or damage.
- Check the ball joint dust cover for cracks.

3. Remove the lower arm mounting nut and bolt.
4. Check the ball joint for starting torque and:
- If a crack is noted in the dust cover, replace it and add grease.
- Shake the ball joint stud several times.
- Mount two nuts on the ball joint, then measure the ball joint starting torque, the standard value should be 2-10 Nm (17.7-88.5 ft. lbs,).
- If the starting torque exceeds the upper limit of standard value, replace the tie rod end.
- Even if the starting torque is below the lower limit of the standard value, the ball joint may be reused unless it has drag and excessive play.
