Valve Guide: Service and Repair

NOTE:
- The valve guide is installed using a press fit.
- Intake and exhaust valve guides differ in length.
EXHAUST 42.7 mm (1.68 inch).
INTAKE 39.1 mm (1.54 inch).







REMOVAL
Using the valve guide remover/installer tool No. 09221-22000, or equivalent, push rod, push the valve guide out toward the cylinder block with a press as shown in the illustration.


INSTALLATION
1. Machine the valve guide insert hole in the cylinder head to the specified oversize of the new valve guide.






2. Using the valve guide remover/installer push rod with adaptor tool No. 09222-29000, or equivalent, press fit the valve guide.

NOTE:
- Using the valve guide remover/installer with adapter makes it possible to press fit the valve guide to a predetermined height.
- Install the valve guide from the top of the cylinder head.

3. After installing the valve guides, insert new valves and check the clearance.
4. Whenever valve guides are replaced, check for valve-to-seat contact, and recondition the valve seats as necessary.
