Front Lower Control Arm






REPLACEMENT
1. Using the Special Service Tool (SST) disconnect the lower arm ball joint from the knuckle.

NOTE: Loosen the nut but do not remove it. Be sure to suitably support the special tool and the nearby part.





2. Remove the stabilizer link mounting self-locking nut, and detach the stabilizer bar from the lower arm.





3. Remove the lower arm mounting nut and bolt.
4. Install the lower arm in the reverse order of removal.

5. After removal inspect the following:
a. Check the bushing for wear and deterioration.
b. Check the lower arm for bending or breakage.
c. Check the clamp for deterioration or damage.
d. Check the ball joint dust cover for cracks.
e. Check all bolts.





f. Check the ball joint for starting torque and check the following:
1. If a crack is noted in the dust cover, replace it and add grease.
2. Shake the ball joint stud several times.
3. Mount two nuts on the ball joint, then measure the ball joint starting torque it should measure 2-10 Nm (17.7-88.5 ft. lbs.).
4. If the starting torque exceeds the upper limit of standard value, replace the tie rod end.
5. Even if the starting torque is below the lower limit of the standard value, the ball joint may be reused unless it has drag and excessive play.
