Stabilizer Link: Testing and Inspection
1. Bushing for wear and deterioration.
2. The stabilizer bar for deterioration or damage.
3. The stabilizer link ball joint dust cover for cracks.
4. All bolts for condition and straightness.
5. Check the stabilizer link ball joint rotation starting torque and:
a. If there is a crack in the dust cover, replace it, adding grease.
b. shake the stabilizer link ball joint stud several times.
c. Mount the self-locking nut on the ball joint, and then measure the ball joint starting torque, it should have a standard value of 1.7-3.2 Nm (15-27 ft. lbs.).
d. If the starting torque exceeds the upper limit of the standard value, replace the stabilizer link.
e. Even if the starting torque is below the lower limit of the standard value, the ball joint may be reused unless it has drag and excessive play.
