Power Steering Pump: Testing and Inspection

PRESSURE TEST
1. Disconnect the pressure hose from the [1][2]oil pump. Connect the Special Service Tool (SST) between the oil pump and pressure hose as illustrated.
2. Bleed the air, and then start the engine and turn the steering wheel several times so that the fluid temperature rises to approximately 50°C (122°F).
3. Increase the engine speed to 1,000 rpm.
4. Close the shut-off valve of the SST and measure the fluid relief pressure to confirm that it is within the standard value range of 6.1-6.6 MPa (882-953 psi.).

CAUTION: Do not keep the shut-off valve on the pressure gauge closed for more than ten seconds.

5. Remove the special tools, and tighten the pressure hose to the 55-65 Nm (40.6-47.9 ft. lbs.).
6. Bleed the system.
