Brake Pad: Service and Repair

Front

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel/tire assembly.
2. Remove two attaching bolts from torque plate, Fig. 2.
3. Remove brake cylinder, then position aside using suitable wire.
4. Remove brake pads.
5. Install pads clips, then the pads onto each clip.
6. Press piston into cylinder using suitable tool.
7. Lower and insert brake cylinder. Tighten bolts to specifications.

Rear

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel/tire assembly.
2. Remove the trailing shoe key to anchor plate retaining screw, Fig. 3.
3. Press the caliper assembly against leading shoe support key, then slide trailing shoe key outward.
4. Press the caliper assembly against leading shoe key then swing the front end of the caliper over the anchor plate rail and hang caliper with wire.
5. Slide the pads off the caliper.
6. Bottom piston in caliper using suitable tool.
7. Install new pads, then leading shoe key onto anchor plate.
8. Slide the caliper assembly over the disc sliding the trailing shoe key inboard until it is seated fully. Install the trailing shoe key to anchor support screw.
