Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
FRONTRemoval
1. Remove wheel/tire assembly.
2. Remove brake hose from caliper.
3. Remove caliper assembly by removing the torque plate.
Disassembly
Fig. 2 Exploded View Of Front Disc Brake Assembly:
1. Loosen attaching bolts and separate caliper.
2. Remove boot ring, using screwdriver.
3. Remove piston boot, Fig. 2.
4. Remove piston by applying compressed air through brake hose fitting hose. Keep fingers clear of front of piston.
5. Using a screwdriver, remove piston seal. Use caution not to damage the cylinder walls.
6. Apply suitable brake fluid to the cylinder walls.
Assembly
1. Clean all components with suitable cleaner.
2. Install piston seal.
3. Apply suitable brake fluid to the piston outer surface.
4. Install piston into cylinder, then the piston boot and ring.
5. Install guide pin boots and pin.
Installation
1. Install brake pads and cylinder.
2. Install brake hose to caliper.
3. Fill brake reservoir and bleed system.

Fig. 3 Exploded View Of Rear Disc Brake Assembly:
1. Remove brake caliper as described under BRAKE PAD.
2. Remove brake hose and pads from caliper assembly.
3. Using suitable tool, pry piston boot from housing, Fig. 3.
4. Remove piston by carefully applying compressed air at brake hose fitting.
5. Remove piston seal, then clean all components with suitable cleaner.
6. Inspect caliper bore, piston and carrier for damage or excessive wear.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Apply brake fluid to piston seal and sliding piston parts.
