SQUEAK WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL
Some 1992 Sonatas may exhibit a squeak when turning the steering wheel. This squeak could be caused by a dry bushing on the lower steering column joint assembly.
This bushing is a two piece bushing held around the steering column by the dust cover.
PROCEDURE:
1. Pull back the carpet and remove the bushing (this can be done from inside the vehicle with your fingers).
NOTE:
Place a rag over the carpet to help keep any lubricant off of the carpet.
2. Remove the existing lubricant from the bushing and steering column.
NOTE:
Make sure that no lubricant comes in contact with the carpet.
3. Pack both halves of the bushing with a lithium lubricant (such as 3M # 8915) and reinstall the bushing on the steering column and insert into the dust cover.
NOTE:
Make sure that no lubricant comes in contact with the carpet.
4. Wipe the excess lithium lubricant from the steering column and bushing and then replace the carpet.
