1992 MODEL KEY CUTTING INFORMATION
1992 EXCEL, SCOUPE & SONATA
All key cutting information for the 1992 Excel, Scoupe and Sonata is unchanged from the 1990- 1991 models.
1992 ELANTRA
Elantra requires a new key blank and new cutter equipment due to a change in the cutting angle from 45~ to 47~.
The 1992 Elantra has a new key blank (Part # 81996-28000)
Note:
Although the Elantra will employ a single key system, if the Curtis system is used, two key blanks, HY-6 and HY-7 will be required for code cutting. The second blank (Curtis HY-7), is required because the code cutter cannot cut a # 4 depth of cut at the shoulder position without removing the shoulder of the key. If the shoulder is removed, the key will not properly operate the lock. Hence, Curtis has developed a second blank (Curtis HY-7) with a # 4 precut at the shoulder. The HY-7 must be used whenever the first cut at the shoulder is a # 4 depth.
CURTIS NO. 15 KEY CUTTER
Due to a change in the key cutting angle (47~), dealers who currently own Curtis key cutting equipment and wish to cut keys for the Elantra, will be required to purchase the Curtis Code Cutter equipment as illustrated.
The flow chart illustrated is for your convenience. It outlines the key code series, key blank, carriage and decoder for all Hyundai vehicles including the 1992 Elantra.
