DRIVER'S SEAT TRACK NOISE - FIELD FIX
This Technical Service Bulletin provides a repair procedure to reduce Sonata driver's seat track assembly noise that occurs between the seat track and height linkage.
This repair procedure applies only to certain drivers seat track assemblies which can be identified by visually inspecting the height adjuster control knob and cover shape. The height adjuster control lever knob is thin and black and the height adjuster cover is a curved shape as shown. Some Sonata vehicles may have another type of seat track assembly which may be identified also by the height adjuster cover shape and control lever knob, which is color matched with the interior of the vehicle. This Technical Service Bulletin does not apply to the seat track assembly with the color matched lever knob.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Move the driver's seat to its rearmost position in the track.
2. Remove the front seat mounting nut covers.
Note:
Be careful not to damage the covers during the removal procedure.
3. Remove the two front seat mounting nuts.
4. Slide the drivers seat forward to expose the two rear mounting bolts. Remove the bolts.
5. Disconnect the seat belt warning wire connector underneath the seat. Disconnect the passive shoulder belt. Unscrew the lap belt guide from the seat, placing the belt behind the seat.
6. Remove the seat assembly from the vehicle.
Note:
Take steps to make sure that the seat does not get dirty or stained during the removal process or during the seat track disassembly, re-assembly procedures. (Removing the headrest will make seat removal easier)
7. Turn the seat upsidedown, thus exposing the underside of the seat and the seat track assembly.
Note:
Take notice of the lubrication on the seat track assembly.
8. Loosen the seat track and height link assembly at the four locations shown in the illustration.
9. Remove the bolts one at a time and insert one gasket between each seat track and height linkage location as illustrated. Use two gaskets in the position marked (4) on the drawing, adjacent to the height adjuster.
10. Re-assemble the seat track, gasket and height linkage. Tighten to 19-34 ft.lb. (2.6-4.7 kg./m.).
11. Re-install the driver's seat into the vehicle.
12. Install the front two nuts and hand tighten.
13. Slide the seat as far forward as possible exposing the rear mounting holes in the seat track. Check to see that both of the seat track locking pawls are functioning properly.
14. Install the rear mounting bolts and torque to 17-26 ft.lb. (2.4-3.6 kg./m.).
CAUTION:
Make sure the mounting nuts and bolts are NOT cross threaded and that they are tightened to the proper torque specification.
15. Move the driver's seat all the way to the back exposing the front two nuts. Torque the front two nuts to 17-26 ft.lb. (2.4-3.6 kg./m.) and re-install the mounting covers securely.
16. Reconnect the seat belt warning wire. Reattach the lap belt guide and belt assembly to the side of the seat. Reconnect the passive shoulder belt.
17. Check the seat track operation, latching and noise by adjusting the seat back and forth.
18. Check that the height adjustment lever is operating properly.
19. Repair procedure is now complete.
